1. Client Background
Mosteb, a reliable glass candle jars dealer, has just partnered with a luxurious candle brand from Spain which is famous for its artisanal fragrances and stylish home décor. The client wanted a glass candle jar just for them, with a gently ribbed texture and a gold metal lid with their logo engraved. Their goal was to offer a product that not only presents their brand as a sophisticated one but also makes a long aroma retention guarantee. The brand chose Mosteb because of our precision in glass forming, easy communication with glass and accessory manufacturers, and our good record in luxurious candle packaging.
2. Challenge
During the development, the team was confronted with two major technical problems:
- High-Precision Dimensional Tolerance:The candle jars that were supposed to be used with metal and wooden outer casings had to be manufactured with very close tolerances of ±0.2mm. Only a small deviation could result in the non-alignment of the assembly or sealing being uneven.
- Fragrance Retention vs. Seal Design:The lid was the part that was supposed to ensure the preservation of the fragrance by providing a strong seal, however, without aesthetic and user-friendliness compromises. Thus, obtaining both airtight performance and visual appeal at the same time was a matter of tricky design balance.
3. Cause Analysis
Our engineering team found out that the variations in temperature during the cooling process resulted in the changes of the diameter of the jar’s mouth. On the other hand, the design of the lid which was made of metal and treated, required very exact threading and gasket adjustment in order to keep both airtightness and smoothness. So, in order to solve these problems, Mosteb’s experts worked hand in hand with the client’s design team and they performed a lot of tolerance mapping and seal-pressure simulations.

4. Solution
- We stabilized jar dimensions from batch to batch by introducing digital precision molding control.
- We started the automated mouth calibration immediately after annealing so that the fit with lids made of different materials would always be consistent.
- We changed the lid gasket to a silicone seal with a high elasticity that allowed for the retention of fragrances without the increase of friction in the assembly.
- Besides,we performed stress and fit tests under different humidity and temperature conditions to prove that their product would work in the long run.
5. Result
The last candle jars were able to align the lids perfectly and make an airtight seal that was the main reason why the smell retention was over 20% longer. After the new collection launch, the Spanish company declared a 35% increase in the repeat orders.
