Mosteb, a reliable glass candle jars exporter, has just collaborated with a lifestyle candle brand from Denmark that was in need of a radically changed glass candle jars to raise its lead fragrance line. The customer wanted a high-gloss gradient jar combined with a soft-touch coated lid—a look that was aimed at producing a premium unboxing moment that was in line with their Scandinavian design language. They picked Mosteb due to our demonstrated export experience, multi-market compliance expertise, and solid engineering support for packaging materials.
Client Background
Mosteb is awarded by the Danish brand due to Mosteb‘s offering of stable supply, the capability of meeting multi-region certifications, and the expertise in high-end decorative processes. The brand needed a sophisticated jar design that would be able to attract attention on the shelves not only in Europe but also in North America. Their personalized version had a two-tone gloss finish, and the lid was covered with a soft matte texture, which was supposed to visually contrast and at the same time give a luxurious and harmonious look.
Challenges
The endeavor had two substantial challenges to overcome.
- Regulatory Divergence: The EU, the U.S., and the UAE had different sets of rules that needed to be met for things like heavy-metal content, recyclability markings, and packaging documentation, and that complexity was greatly increased for the procurement department.
- High-Gloss Surface Durability: The customer wanted a surface that looked like a mirror, but at the same time, such a surface is very vulnerable to micro-scratches during container transport over a long distance, and therefore the quality of the surface is compromised upon delivery.
Cause Analysis
By analysis, our engineering team proved that the problem of scratching was due to the union of the ultra-smooth glass surface and points of friction in the areas where the cartons were packed for the shipping of the goods. Meanwhile, we also found that the default ink system applied in the first prototypes was not compliant with the UAE’s environmental standards that have strictly limited heavy metals. Our response to these problems was to re-examine the polishing, ink, and protection strategies. Long development periods were punctuated by frequent discussions between us and the client, during which we shared the testing results and variants to ensure that our final deliverable would meet both the regulatory and aesthetic requirements.
Solution
We invented a three-pronged solution:
- One of the first things Mosteb did was to implement a micro-reinforced high-gloss coating with superior resistance to wear while still keeping its brilliance.
- There was also a detachable transport overlay of barely visible thickness that was there for protection during shipping but could be removed easily and without damage to the surface.
- We used a low-migration, heavy-metal-compliant ink to ensure regulatory safety in all of the target areas.
- The company decided to adjust the dividers in the cartons and to add more padding so that the jars would not touch each other, and the vibration would be lessened.
Result
First off, the revamped jars passed the compliance tests in the EU, the U.S., and the UAE in a single round. Furthermore, the jars were in excellent condition upon arrival after many sea-freight simulation tests. The customer was able to start the global rollout of the product line on schedule and was able to achieve early sales that were higher than what they had anticipated due to the product being visually more attractive to the customers.
