1. Client Background

Our client, a premium floral and home décor brand based in Denmark, wanted to expand their seasonal product line by offering custom candle holder décor. They aimed to make glass holders elegant enough to not only complement floral arrangements but also heighten the ambient lighting at any event or home gathering. Knowing our experience in decorative glass craftsmanship and our ability to turn design ideas into glass products that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also structurally sound, they picked Mosteb.

2. Challenge

At first, a candle holder’s design might be considered outgoingly simple. Yet, the problem of obtaining the best light diffusion effect was very tricky. Our engineers had to work out the illumination to be even and balanced by determining the glass thickness and refraction angles with absolute accuracy. In such a way, the light from the flame will have a soft and even glow. While these activities were going on, the client’s plan for the use of the inscribed and embossed surface elements intensified the problem of weight imbalance. Slightly unevenly decorated reliefs in the asymmetry could cause the holder’s center of gravity to be changed, hence the risk of tipping during use will be increased.

3. Cause Analysis

Our technical team performed simulation and testing on physical objects in-depth to uncover the main factors behind the problems:

  1. During molding, the cooling was not even which caused variations in wall thickness and consequently changed light diffusion patterns.
  2. Embossing of the decoration resulted in the creation of micro-imbalances along the base which, in turn, affected the overall stability.

We joined hands with the client’s design and safety teams to solve these problems by testing numerous prototypes and making changes in both the mold geometry and cooling profiles so that they would be perfectly balanced optically and physically.

4. Solution

Mosteb took certain steps in order to beat these challenges:

  • Optimized Mold Temperature Control: Implemented multi-zone temperature management system to ensure glass flowed uniformly and walls remained consistent throughout the piece.
  • Precision Refraction Testing: Implemented laser light testing to accurately determine refractive indices and guarantee uniform light diffusion.
  • Base Reinforcement Design: Just a little bit thickened bottom made and micro-level weight balancing included to bring the stability up.
  • Dual Surface Finishing: Different methods were used for the outer decorative texture and the inner reflective surface to get both beauty and lightness of the illumination.

5. Result

The brand’s candle jars turned out to be beyond their expectations, they actually operated as uniform, warm light diffusion source and their balance was stable to a great extent even decorated with complex surface patterns. The line of products became one of the top-selling décor items of the brand and was extensively talked about for the neat merging of art with technical precision. The project Mosteb undertook was instrumental in reaffirming the company’s standing as the go-to partner who is capable of connecting the dots between ideational work and functional brilliance.
