1. Client Background
A glass candle jars company Mosteb was approached by a home-fragrance brand based in Denmark that wanted to upgrade the packaging of its classic candle collection. They desired a custom glass candle jar with a satin-matte finish, a softly faceted body, a brushed-brass lid with a silicone ring for small details. The main idea of this design was to get a more luxurious hand-feel, enhance the shelf presence, and deliver a quiet, seamless “premium opening experience” of the brand. The brand decided on Mosteb due to our demonstrated precision forming skills, our extensive knowledge of global fire-safety regulations, and our good record of working with luxury candle makers.
2. Challenge
- Noise-Free Lid Engagement
The brand insisted on a totally silent opening movement. Nevertheless, when glass comes in contact with metal or bamboo lids, micro-friction can result in scratching or clicking noises, and this happens mostly on faceted surfaces or on tightly fitted ones.
- Multi-Region Safety Compliance
As the candle line was intended for the North American, EU, and Australian markets, the fire-safety and material-safety standards to which the jars conformed had to take into account those regions. These included prerequisites for thermal resistance, controlled breakage, and limited metal content.
3. Cause Analysis
By performing acoustic, thermal, and structural analyses, our engineering team found out that there were two main problems to address:
- Microscopic unevenness of the rim was causing friction noises that could be heard when the lid was put on the jar.
- Differences in material composition from normal production resulted in the safety standards of the different regions not being met all the time.
We not only changed the glass jar’s forming method and redesigned the lining of the lid, but we also collaborated closely with the client to ensure compliance in each target market in order to fix these problems.

4. Solution
Micro-Polishing of Jar Rims
To upgrade the smoothness by 30% and thus notably lessen the friction surface of metal lids we carried out a rim polishing intervention under control.
Dual-Layer Silicone Liner for Silent Engagement
The inner part of the ring employing two different silicone hardness levels was made to absorb friction and bring about a silent, soft closing movement.
High-Thermal-Stability Glass Formula
The glass batch was reformulated by us using a modified borosilicate-soda blend so that it would be able to resist rapid temperature changes and satisfy heat-shock criteria of all the three regions.
Regulatory Testing Matrix
The testing protocol for various markets was implemented comprising drop tests, fire-exposure behavior, and heavy-metal screening, among other things, to check whether the jars met the standards for North America, the EU, and Australia.
5. Result
The candle jars in their last stage of production provided the opening and closing of the lids in a silent manner which was the perfect luxury experience for the brand. The certifications required for the three regions were all awarded after the first submission, thus there were no delays in the worldwide distribution. The repackaging allowed the brand to gain 28% more pre-launch wholesale orders and, since then, it has extended the range with two more Mosteb made jar designs.
