A Spanish decorative diffuser bottles importer needed to add to its home fragrance product line by introducing a new line of high quality reed diffusers. The company provided decorative fragrance consumer packaging for gift shops, home decor shops and specialty lifestyle shops in Southern Europe.
The importer required custom glass bottles that would be able to meet the high volume retail requirements, be aesthetically pleasing whilst offering functional performance, and be distinct from its competition in the diffuser market.

- Limited Shelf Differentiation: The majority of the diffuser bottles that were on the market from existing suppliers were either round or square bottles and the brand found it hard to establish a unique presence in a competitive retail environment.
- Inconsistent Decorative Finishes: The importer needed decorative surface finishes which required custom colour coating and metallic accents. But, the previous suppliers had a problem with keeping the finish quality with large order quantities and thus had to deal with colour variations.
- Risk of breakage during international shipping: The products were shipped to several markets in Europe and the customer required packaging that would not result in a higher breakage rate due to warehouse handling, pallet stacking and long-distance shipping.

Decorative Bottle Design Optimization

It was decided that the bottle shape should be appropriate to the contemporary ideas of interior decoration and at the same time keep production efficiency.
Customized Surface Decoration
To get a “premium look”, the bottles were customized with:
- Frosted glass finishing
- Gradient color coating
- Metallic hot stamping accents
- Custom logo printing
Scrupulous quality control was used in the manufacturing process, so that the color was consistent for each batch.
Enhanced Packaging Protection
Each bottle was protected with dividers and reinforced export carton to minimize transportation risks. The packaging is optimized into pallets in order to achieve the best stability in sea freight and warehouse storage.
Production & Quality Control
Sample bottles were subjected to testing and approved by the customer prior to mass production.
Other quality checks carried out were:
- The testing of the adhesion of surface coatings.
- Dimensional consistency checks
- Visual examination of decorative finishes.
- Carton compression testing
- Export packaging verification
These were taken to assure the finished bottles both esthetically and in terms of transportation requirements.
Results
The new decorative diffuser bottle collection was an effective support for the customer’s premium product launch.
Within 6-months of the upgraded packaging introduction:
- The importer increased distribution in other retail outlets.
- The bottle design was also used in decorative applications, which helped to improve the shelf presentation in gift / lifestyle stores.
- The number of complaints regarding transportation packaging was dramatically lowered.
- Multiple variations of bottle shape and color were ordered again to meet new fragrance orders.
