A luxury glass cylinder vase manufacturer in the USA approached Mosteb to create custom glass cylinder vases to be used in their high end home fragrance line.The glass cylinder vases were to be utilized for reed diffuser displays, decorative floral arrangements, luxury gift sets, as well as select retail fragrance collections.
The aim was to develop an elegant design of a vase, which would be simple and suitable for a premium positioning of the brand and for high-volume production.
Challenge
While glass cylinder vases might seem simple enough, the cutting, edge finishing and stress relief of large diameter cylindrical glass needs to be controlled more closely. Minor changes can impact on the quality of the rim, dimensional uniformity, optical characteristics, and safety for handling.

Engineering Analysis
The engineering team examined the production process, and four variables that might have significant influence on the quality of the finished glass cylinder vases were identified – cutting speed, blade alignment, cooling conditions and edge finishing parameters.

- Precision Diamond Blade: The precision diamond-blade cutting made it possible to have uniform dimensions and rim geometry on production batches.
- Automated Edge Polishing: Glass cylinder vases have had their rims polished using automated polishers to remove sharp edges, smoothen rough surfaces and provide a more polished finish for the glass vases in the retail marketplace.
- Stress-Relief Annealing: Controlled annealing (stress-relief annealing) was performed after cutting and polishing to minimize the internal stress and structural stability of the vases.
- Multi-Stage Quality Inspection: QC team carried out the smoothness of the rim, roundness of the cylinder, glass clarity, surface quality and dimensional consistency inspections prior to packaging.
