A Copenhagen, Denmark based home fragrance wholesaler found decorative diffuser bottles import a big issue when launching their high-end reed diffuser line to retailers in Scandinavian countries. The client was facing problems with the sourcing repeatedly, so the client decided to work together with a professional decorative diffuser bottles factory, Mosteb, and get a customized glass diffuser bottle for large-volume importation.
The client ordered a 180 ml decorative diffuser bottle with a transparent oval body, a beautiful twisted vertical optic pattern, a thick crystal look base and a natural ash wood cap and a food-grade sealing insert. The optic texture is chosen to be twisted because it produces interesting light reflections on the shelves in the shop and still presents a clean Nordic look. The heavier base provided better stability while at home and better premium look. Our in-house mold development, track record with exports, and ability to ensure quality consistency during repeat production runs were key factors that influenced the client’s decision to work with us and why they chose the Mosteb.
Défis
- The first is high rejection rates as a result of varying bottle neck size: The client had sourced decorative diffuser bottles from a number of different suppliers but the neck diameter of the bottles was slightly different and this was causing the sealing components to fit irregularly. There were occasions where bottles needed too much assembly effort and other occasions where bottles were not able to hold the stopper firmly enough, which meant that more time would need to be spent on inspection prior to shipment, and production efficiency at the customer’s filling facility would be reduced.
- Deliveries were irregular, which impacted seasonal buying plans: Several months before the holiday sales season, decorative diffuser bottles were ordered, which often resulted in production delays and shipping dates slipping. This meant that the client had reduced preparation time in warehouse and extra expense on logistics because of hasty transportation arrangements.
Analyse des causes
We analyzed production samples and talked with the client’s importing workflow, and we concluded that there were two main reasonings.
Firstly, inconsistent mold maintenance, causing changes in the dimensions of necks over time, following production. The second was lack of coordination in the production, quality inspection and booking for exports leading to unnecessary delays in scheduling.
To overcome these problems, Mosteb developed specific production processes for the project, coordinated production with exports, and improved the dimensional checks during production.
Solution
- Dedicated production moulds were reserved and regular calibration was carried out during production to ensure the uniformity of the neck dimension.
- Achieved 100% gauge checking of critical dimensions such as bottle opening, thread size and base flatness.
- Optimized production planning by having production, packaging, inspection and booking of containers all in one project schedule.
- Designed reinforced export packaging including customised dividers, compression tested cartons, for better sea freight protection.
- Gave the client detailed production updates and inspection reports and pre-shipment sample approvals for full visibility of the project.
Résultat
The decorative diffuser bottles were delivered in a timely manner, with good dimensional consistency, and with little transport damage. There was a significant improvement in the efficiency of the assembly at the customer’s filling line, and seasonal stocks were delivered before the seasonal sales period began. The Danish customer was impressed with the quality of the products and the reliability of their supply and decided to make Mosteb his long-term decorative diffuser bottles factory for future projects of supplying decorative diffuser bottles.
