Client Background
Glass candle holders export became a key requirement for a mid-sized fragrance candle manufacturer based in Gothenburg, Sweden, as they expanded distribution across Scandinavia and Northern Europe. The brand has a preference of premium lifestyle retailers in the clean-burning soy candle and required a consistent overseas factory to ensure consistency in export levels.
They collaborated with Mosteb, a professional glass candle holders factory to design a matte white glass candle holder with a light sandblasted finish, thick reinforced bottom, and a corresponding FSC-certified wooden lid. This design was in compliance with Nordic minimalism but enhanced the heat resistance and shelf stability. Challenges
- Export Packaging Compliance: The former suppliers did not deliver a packaging meeting the EU transit and stacking requirements, which resulted in the breakage during the cross-border transit.
- Repeat Orders Consistency Batch: The client was required to have the same color tone and the same wall thickness on several export batches to be able to have the same brand in various markets.
Result
In the case of our team, previous problems were associated with a lack of calibration of the mould and the use of generic solutions of export packaging. To deal with this, we checked the distribution routes and end-use conditions of the client and made some changes in production controls and export packing specifications.
Solution
- Molded a specific mold with limited wall thickness (+-0.4mm) tolerance.
- Launched the use of double-wall carton packaging with custom inserts to be used during transit to the export market.
- Adopted batch color comparison standards and maintained reference samples to make future orders.
- Appointed an export coordinator to handle documentation, loading and shipping schedules.
Result
- Finished the initial order of glass candle holders of 8000 units with no transit damages.
- Cut customer complaints on glass defects by 100 percent as compared to previous suppliers.
- Helped the client gain access to two new Nordic retail chains per season.
- Signed a long term export contract with quarterly repeat purchases.
